Planting the Seed: Why Starting Your Garden Is a Total Blast!

seeds for change

🌱✨ Guess what time it is? It’s seed-sowing season, and here at Reuthe’s we are buzzing with excitement! Let’s talk about why planting those first seeds of the year is like throwing a party for your soul.

Seed Shopping Spree

First things first – picking out seeds is like being a kid in a candy store. Flipping through seed catalogs or scrolling online, it’s all about dreaming big and imagining your garden as the ultimate green paradise. The options are endless, and that alone is enough to make you giddy!

What to Grow Now

Just because January & February are dark, cold, dank months then it doesn’t mean we have to hibernate until the Spring. Embrace the change that a new shiny year presents to us and start sowing some slow growing veggie seedlings that you will plant out when the weather is warmer & the days are longer. In pots (or egg boxes) on a windowsill sow tomatoes, chillies & aubergines NOW. Now, the real fun begins when you get your hands dirty. Picture this: you, a bag of soil, and those tiny seeds. It’s like creating magic with your fingertips. There’s a thrill in making those little holes and dropping in the seeds – a feeling of connection to the earth that’s downright grounding. Cover with some clingfilm to make a DIY propagator and in a week or so you will start to see green shoots emerging from the dark.

Seeds sown yesterday (top-dressed with vermiculite)

Outside in the Veg Garden, I’ve direct sown broad beans, peas & garlic, so I’m hoping for an early crop (if the local deer, squirrels & rabbits are kind and let me keep some of my crop)! And the over-wintered cavalo nero cabbage & kale are still providing a crop despite a battering from the storms.

Growing Hopes and Dreams

Sowing those seeds is like launching a rocket of hope into the gardening cosmos. You’re not just planting; you’re cultivating dreams. With each seed that goes into the soil, you’re making a pact with Mother Nature for a spectacular show in the upcoming months.

The Big Reveal

Fast forward a bit, and here comes the grand reveal – the first sprouts popping up! It’s like your garden’s way of saying, “Surprise, I’m alive!” Watching those green shoots emerge is like witnessing a tiny miracle. Suddenly, you’re not just a gardener; you’re a proud plant parent with a front-row seat to nature’s show.

Patience? What’s That?

Okay, let’s be real – patience might not be our strongest suit, but that’s part of the charm. Every day is a new episode in the saga of your growing garden. Forget waiting for the weekend; you’re checking on your little green buddies daily, eagerly anticipating the next big development.

It’s a Jungle Out There

As the weeks roll by, your garden transforms into a wild, beautiful jungle. It’s like you’re starring in your own mini nature documentary. From the first leaves to the blooming flowers, you’re the director, and your garden is the star of the show.

Conclusion: Party on, Green Thumbs!

Sowing those first seeds isn’t just about gardening; it’s about embracing the joy, the messiness, and the sheer delight of growing something from scratch. So, fellow green thumbs, let’s celebrate the chaos, revel in the surprises, and keep the garden party going all season long! đźŽ‰đźŚż
