Katie from Wildberry Wood runs our Hilltop Explorers sessions every Wednesday morning here at Reuthes. These sessions are aimed at preschool children and their carers, and are run along the Forest School principles of child centred learning, with the aim of encouraging children to engage with nature and develop their skills and confidence. A typical session will include stories, songs, playing with the mud kitchen, hunting for bugs and doing a seasonal craft or cooking activity.
Katie is a Level 3 Forest School Leader with a background in teaching. She works with children of all age groups delivering Forest School sessions, birthday parties and holiday clubs. Katie lived in Sweden for 5 years where she was inspired by their approach to 'friluftsliv', or outdoor living. She subscribes to the Swedish philosophy that there's 'no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!' She also firmly believes that engaging with nature has a positive impact on wellbeing, as well as encouraging us to respect and take care of our environment.
